The breath of nuclear made havoc on a part of the cast. To begin with Victor Young who realized the soundtrack of the film. He dies indeed on November 10, 1956 at Palm Spring, California of a cancer, 56 years old.
Then, comes the turn of Dick Powell who will die on January 2, 1963 at West Los Angeles of a cancer at the age of 59 years.

The actor/director was in the René Clair's film " It Happened Tomorrow " in 1944 where he played the part of a journalist who had the gift to know what was going to occur the next day, having so the scoop before his colleagues and his rivals. This gift was regretably only cinema because it would indeed have to served him while he left on the set in the Nevada's desert to shoot a part of his film " The Conqueror ". He is henceforth burried in Forrest Lawn's cemetery on the Hill of Hollywood, California where sleep for a long time numerous celebrities. He was married during ten years to the axtress Joan Blondell who died from a leukaemia on December 25, 1979. |

has not more than some months to live affected by a
lymph's cancer (colorless liquid which bathes the skin
and the organs). The one who played the vizier of
" Captain Sindbad " with Guy Williams (Zorro) in 1963
lived above his means and had more or less ruined
himself. He played a last role so that his wife draws the
stamp in inheritance and was the unforgettable Kerim Bey
in the 2nd James Bond with Sean Connery in
" From Russia With Love ". During the
shooting the cancer affects his legs and does him to
limp, but he remains deserving and doesn't show it on
screen. The director Terence Young will turn his scenes
first and foremost, Armendariz arriving in terminal phase
at the end of the shooting. Less than two weeks after the
locking up of the film, Pedro Armendariz Sr is
hospitalized in the UCLA Medical Center of Los Angeles.
There, on June 18, 1963, on his hospital bed, he shoots
him a bullet in full heart to finish himself his life at
51 years old only. His son, Pedro Armendariz Jr, will
honour him by interpreting Hector Lopez's role, dictator,
in the 17th James Bond " Licence To Kill "
on which he will be also assistant of

Susan Hayward discovered that she had a tumor in the brain in 1972. She fought the evil as much as she was able in Emory Hospital of Los Angeles. Seeing herself more or less lost, she tries to commit suicide in 1974. She will die nevertheless after three years from fight against her brain cancer at 56 years old on March 14, 1975. |
| John Wayne, said Duke, tremendous westerns actor, begins to fall sick in 1964 during the shooting of the film Otto Preminger's " In Harm's Way " with Kirk Douglas. He coughs enormously and often has difficulty in breathing. He leaves the hospital on October 08 and makes public his " first victory " (french title of his film called "In Harm's Way") only on December 29, 1964 by urging the press in his home to have brought down " The Big C " as he called it and wanting to show the example in whole America, such a good citizen. 57-year-old then, he resumes the roads of studios and makes " Sons of Katie Elder ", enduring the shooting thanks to an inhaler with oxygen which doesn't leave him. He will make still so 18 films. He plays in 1976 his last western "The Shootist" (in french called with the suggestive title " The Last one of the Giants ") who tells the history of his life : the credit is made by extracts of his films and the scenario depicts a cowboy to whom one announces that he is affected by a cancer against which he is going to fight otherwise than with the Colt. He will declare that the subject of the film does not frighten him because he is now member of the club and faces up to the disease with courage. On March 25, 1978, John Wayne undergoes again some medical tests to the Hoag Memorian Center of Los Angeles and should be operated in heart opened on April 3 in Massachussetts General Hospital of Boston where the doctor Mortimer Buckley replaces him a failing valve. Then, the stomach is touched by cancerous cells and the ablation is inevitable, replaced by a prosthesis of plastic. On June 11, 1979, he delivers his last fight to the hospital and dies at 72 years old, 17 days after his birthday, in the UCLA Medical Center in 17 an hour 23, there where sixteen years previously Pedro Armendariz Sr had committed suicide, both victims of the film "The Conqueror " and of this muck of disease. He will be buried on June 15 in the Pacific View Memorial Park, after the burial were held in the parish Our Lady Queen of Angles to Newport Beach, in the Golf of Santa Catalina, California. John Wayne had asked that his family engraves on his grave the following epitaph: " Feo, Fuerte y Formal ", what means " Ugly, Hardly and with dignity ". His last wishes was never heightened The funeral was very discreet and at the request of the family, the grave was hidden during almost 20 years to avoid the vandalism.
